How to use it
- Open the Record panel and press Allow microphone. Your browser asks for permission; nothing records until you press Record.
- Watch the level meter while you speak. Aim for peaks in the yellow zone, not the red.
- Press Record, Pause and Resume as needed, then Stop.
- The take is added to the timeline. Trim it, remove silences, normalize.
- Export MP3 or WAV.
Privacy and permission
The microphone is used only after you press Allow microphone and grant permission in the browser prompt. Audio is captured with the browser's MediaRecorder into memory in this tab. It is not sent anywhere. Press Release microphone, or stop the recording, and the device light turns off.
If permission is denied or later revoked, the panel says so and explains how to re-enable it from the site settings in the address bar.
Monitoring without feedback
Live monitoring through speakers causes howling feedback, so it is off: you see a level meter instead. The browser's echo cancellation and noise suppression are switched off for a natural sound, and auto gain is off so levels stay as you set them.
Questions
What format is the raw recording?
The browser records compressed audio (Opus in WebM on Chrome and Firefox, AAC in MP4 on Safari). It is decoded into the editor, and you export to the format you choose.
Can I record system audio or another tab?
No, only microphone inputs. Capturing other apps needs screen-sharing permissions this tool does not request.
Is there a time limit?
No fixed limit, but very long takes are bounded by device memory; you will see a warning before it becomes a problem.
