Reverse audio or a selection

Play a sound backwards. Reverse the whole file, or select a part — like a cymbal hit — to create a swell into the next beat.

How to use it

  1. Open the audio.
  2. Select the part to reverse, or press Ctrl/⌘+A for everything.
  3. Press Reverse (R).
  4. Reversed clips are marked in the clip strip; reversing again restores them.
  5. Export.

Making a reverse swell

Copy a percussive hit, reverse it, and place it right before the original. Here: select the hit, Duplicate in the Clip panel, then reverse the first copy. Its decay becomes a rising swell that ends exactly where the original hit starts. Add a short fade in so the swell starts from silence.

Reversing is exact: the output is the same samples in the opposite order, with clip fades mirrored so a fade out becomes a fade in.

Questions

Can I reverse only one channel?

Not currently. Reverse applies to all channels of the selected clips.

Does reversing reduce quality?

No. No samples are changed, only their order.

Can I find hidden backwards messages?

You can listen to any recording reversed; whether you hear a message is up to your ears.
