How to use it
- Drop your WAV. 16, 24 and 32-bit PCM and float WAVs are read by the built-in decoder exactly.
- Optionally trim the start and end.
- Choose a bitrate. The estimated MP3 size appears next to the Export button.
- Add title and artist tags if wanted.
- Export and download.
Size and quality
A minute of CD-quality stereo WAV is about 10 MB. The same minute as MP3 is 1.4 MB at 192 kbps and 2.4 MB at 320 kbps. MP3 discards detail the ear is less sensitive to; at 192 kbps and above most listeners cannot tell it from the WAV on typical speakers.
WAVs above 48 kHz are converted to 48 kHz first, because MP3 does not support higher rates. 24-bit and float sources are converted to 16-bit for the encoder.
Questions
Is there a file size limit?
Only your device memory. A 10-minute stereo WAV is no problem on a typical laptop or phone.
Can I convert many WAVs at once?
Yes. Open them all and use Batch → Convert all with format MP3; you get one ZIP.
Variable bitrate (VBR)?
The bundled encoder produces constant bitrate (CBR) MP3, which plays and seeks reliably everywhere.
